Her name meant "All Bright" and she was the Goddess of the Brightness, especially the Sun. She may have also been the Goddess of the Full Moon, as she was the mate of Zeus in his epithet of Zeus Pandion (the Full Moon God).
Another source says that she and her sisters were the daughters of Zeus and Selene.
