Telchines
Underwater demons and craftsmen
The Telchines were the original inhabitants of the island of Rhodes, in Greek mythology. They were the children of the Titans Pontus and Gaea; or Pontus and Thalassa; or Tartarus and Nemesis; or they were born out of the blood that fell on the earth when Uranus was castrated by his son Cronus, thus making them the siblings of the Erinyes.
They were skilled in metallurgy and built a trident for the god Poseidon and a sickle for the god Cronus. The Titan goddess Rhea asked them to raise the god Poseidon, helped by Caphira, an Oceanid. Another version has it that they were entrusted with the upbringing of Zeus. They were considered to possess magical powers, and were able to shapeshift, create poisons, and cause hailstorms, snow and rain.
Because they started using their powers for evil, they were killed either by Zeus, who hurled thunderbolts against them; by Poseidon, who killed them with his trident; or by Apollo, who turned into a wolf and killed them.
